Theory test help
You will need to take a car theory test before you can take the car practical test. You will need to be aged at least 17 years old (16 if you are on the enhanced rate of mobility on PIP) when you turn up for your test.
The theory test costs £23 and will last for 2 years once passed.

The test itself is split in to 2 sections, 50 multiple choice questions and then 14 hazard perception videos. The pass marks are:
Score 43 out of 50 on the multiple choice questions.
Score 44 out of 75 on the hazard perception videos.

You will have 57 minutes to complete the multiple choice questions.

Click the buttons below for more information on the multiple choice questions or hazard percetion videos.

It is highly recommended that you spend some time revising for both elements of the theory test.

There are multiple books, apps and websites available, both for free and to buy, that will help you prepare for your theory test.

The DVSA have their own app that is available for both Android and iOS. Both of these apps come with the highway code included. But if you do not have access to these apps or prefer to read something physical, getting hold of a Highway Code is essential as this is the information that the multiple choice questions is based upon.

Finally, after you have read all the required information from the books, apps or websites, you should do a mock test. This will help you to focus on the areas of the Highway Code that you are getting wrong and will increase the chance of you passing the theory test
